If there's gonna be a delay, do you want more reader mail for people to submit? I'm pretty sure you could do some filler strips that way if it's that important to you to do a certain special effect a certain way.
Maybe you should reconsider the CGI approach, they're getting good enough at it that they can do better than real life sometimes. ;-)
Or how about a "reasonably clever faked special effect"? Hmmm?
One thing I thought of is that you could just put in a temporary filler graphic, and create the real special effect when weather finally permits.
It doesn't matter that you'll have to come back and change it, as long as you link in the filler special effect with it's replacement later on when you actually can put the replacement effect in.
It really sucks to see a comic delayed by "weather not permitting" ...

weathers great round here, but i cant enjoy it. i may have broken my wrist.
CGI just dosnt give you the whole "Melted Plastic" look.
