I'm probably grasping at straws here, but the reason for talking to Wash would probably be to find out if he'd consent to some tests or not.
It'd be a lot harder for Donut to measure a hostile zombie than for him to measure a relatively friendly one.

No, I won't say it, I'll have to wait and see how the plot goes. But it's eating at me.
